Gastdirigent Bartholomeus-Henri Van de Velde und die Deutsche Kammerakademie in Neuss, ein Konzertabend, dessen Besuch sich gelhonnt hat.
Gastdirigent Bartholomeus-Henri Van de Velde legte Wert auf rhythmische Präzision, exakt leitete er das Orchester und bereitete musikalische Pointen dramaturgisch geschickt vor. […] Das achtsätzige Werk (Mozarts Marsch und Serenade, Haffner KV 249 und KV 250) ist durchgehend strahlend und feierlich angelegt — und so dirigierte Bartholomeus-Henri Van de Velde auch. « Fondateur de l’orchestre de chambre Charlemagne, Bartholomeus-Henri VAN de VELDE, présente depuis quelques années ses concerts sous la forme d’une véritable saison, façon de fixer des objectifs concrets aux musiciens et de fidéliser le public. Evidently he has the chief qualities which characterise a born conductor: clarity and suppleness of gesture, precision of the attacks, eloquence of the phrasing, a great variety of the nuances and sound effects, perfect cohesion of the whole orchestra."
…The others two works on the program – Franck’s “Le chasseur maudit” (The Accursed Huntsman) and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.2 in C minor, Op. 17, the “Little Russian”- were perfect bookends to the Mussorgsky “pictures at an Exhibition” arranged and played by Emile NAOUMOFF, as piano concerto. Franck’s tone poem about a hunter who finds himself pursued by demons is a most atmospheric piece,
from the plaintive horn calls that open it to sudden, violent chord that is the hunter’s coup de grace.
And the Tchaikovsky, with its wealth of folk-based melodies, its predominant lycheery atmosphere and its orchestral fireworks-lots of French horns and timpani rivals ”Pictures” as a piece to demonstrate just how much sound an orchestra can produce.
Both these works were given vigorous, exciting performances by the Philharmonic, under the baton of guest conductor Bartholomeus VAN de VELDE. The players seemed to respond enthusiastically to VAN de VELDE’s directions, and he was equally enthusiastic about the players, going into the orchestra to acknowledge the performances of individuals and sections at the conclusion of each piece.

"…These Monday night concerts are quite pleasant. Among the attendees, there are those who wish to be initiated to music, professionals who strive to learn more, or novices who have immersed themselves in discovery. These concerts have revealed a lot of things to me. For centuries, this music has managed to express sentiments and ideas through a succession of notes.
It is simply beautiful… Before the interlude at the last concert, I wanted to stay alone, to be at one with the music of Copland who allowed me to dive 20,000 leagues under the sea…"
Mettons en valeur nos artistes - par M. Stroobant, Cahors-
Belge, habitant à Cahors, j'ai eu le plaisir d'assister au magnifique concert du 28.01.02 au Conservatoire de Bruxelles donné par l'Orchestre de Chambre Charlemagne sous la direction de Bartholomeus-Henri VAN de VELDE.
Le concert était tellement fabuleux que j'ai prolongé mon séjour à Bruxelles pour assister au concert du même orchestre dirigé toujours par le même remarquable chef Barth VAN de VELDE avec, en soliste, le non moins merveilleux virtuose Ronald Vanspaendonck, clarinettiste, qui m'a laissé un souvenir ému et enthousiaste. Ils ont interprété un programme avec des composteurs Belges entre autres. Que faire pour que les Belges se rendent compte qu'ils ont des artistes à découvrir et à défendre?
Barth, enthousiasme les foules à Mexico où il fait salle comble à chacune de ses prestations.
Un jour il partira, si on ne le retient pas ici en lui permettant de vivre de son art. Imitons nos voisins français qui mettent en valeur leurs artistes qui sont souvent moins doués que les nôtres.

"L'orchestre CHARLEMAGNE préfère les concerts intimes".
C'est ce que déclarait, en souriant et avec humour, Bartholomeus
VAN de VELDE, chef du CHARLEMAGNE Chamber Orchestra, au public qui avait
échappé à l'attrait de YO-YO MA et sa route de la
Soie, à Ning Kam, lauréate du dernier concours de violon,
ou tout simplement à la chaleur d'une soirée T.V.
Dans la salle du Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, les musiciens sous la baguette exigeante, fougueuse et passionnée de Barth, soulèvent l'enthousiasme du "public" qui, comme un seul homme se lève pour applaudir à tout rompre un orchestre en droit d'appeler du GRAND ART.
Dur, dur d'être musicien en Belgique, dur, dur d'être musicien belge en Belgique!...et pourtant, l'émotion était au rendez-vous ce lundi 28 janvier.
La deuxième partie du concert donna à Barth l'occasion d'expliquer les oeuvres, "puisque nous sommes entre nous, les musiciens et moi-même nous engageons à donner à chacun de vous le meilleur de nous-même et partager ainsi l'amour de la musique".
"S'engager", voilà un mot qui est rarement prononcé. L'engagement de Barth et ses musiciens fut total.
Mission accomplie par Barth VAN de VELDE et l'orchestre CHARLEMAGNE ! ! !
The Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional (OSN – National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico) and Scottish soprano Marie McLAUGHLIN provided the finale for the XVIII Historic Centre Festival in the Palacio de Marmol.
Melancholy was the keynote of the gala with which the OSN concluded the XVIII Festival.

British soprano Marie McLAUGHLIN captivated her Mexican audience during her performance at the Fine Arts Palace, one of the main classical music concerts held on the penultimate day of the XVIII Historic Centre Festival.
The Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional (OSN), under the baton of Belgian guest conductor Bartholomeus VAN de VELDE, delivered a programme that was to the liking of the audience, which especially appreciated the technical precision and perfection of the performance which accompanied so well the exceptional voice of the soprano.
Although the Marmol venue recorded only a normal attendance rate, the audience was pleased with the performance of the two European artists, judging by the ovations during the various numbers of the works that made up the programme.
The most intense part of the programme was the interpretation of symphony N°3, Op. 36, by Gorecki, also known as the SORROWFUL SONGS, in which the composer refers to the pain of a mother at losing her son.
During the first part, the OSN, conducted by Bartholomeus VAN de VELDE, interpreted Danse (Tarantelle styrienne) by Claude Debussy and orchestrated by Maurice Ravel.
The OSN will give two concerts in the Fine Arts Palace on Friday at 8pm and Sunday at 12.15pm in the context of the Historical Centre Festival. Famous British soprano Marie McLAUGHLIN will be interpreting the beautiful AUVERGNE SONGS by Marie-Joseph Canteloube, and Symphony N°3 or SORROWFUL SONGS by Henry GORECKI, the gripping work which has been described as « hypnotic and moving ». Danse, by Claude Debussy and orchestrated by Maurice Ravel, will also be the part of the performance, conducted by Bartholomeus VAN de VELDE, a famous Belgian musician who has had an outstanding career ever since he made his debut as a conductor at the age of 22.

The evening’s closing work, Brahms’ Symphony N° 3, shifted the focus to the orchestra itself, and also to VAN de VELDE, as the driving force in shaping “the music”.
The orchestra responded wonderfully to VAN de VELDE’s direction. His motions paid off in some of the strongest playing by the Flint Symphony Orchestra strings in recent seasons. The FSO players expertly followed VAN de VELDE’s gestures to play with true commitment.…
